I am not in Seattle but I try to keep up and every time I've checked the KOMO site there is always someone being shot and killed.. from officers to what just happened yesterday. If someone can get shot 3 times in the head near the Space Needle how safe is the rest of the city?? Should I be extremely concerned and reconsider at this point?

I wouldn't be overly concerned. Things happen, but it's a large city and with lots of people downtown there's bound to be a few bad guys mixed in, but the good outweighs them. Despite some of the recent events, Seattle is a very safe city, and you just have to use your best judgement as you would in any major city.

I think it's because of the economy. Washington has become much more expensive and corporat-ish over the last few decades, and with the recession I think some people can't handle it and are snapping. I think the frequent random attacks will continue until the economy gets better, but Seattle is still safer than a lot of cities.

Every news station in just about every city leads with stories about murder and crime. It's what sells. If you watched the news in any city and based a move on the nightly local news, you'd never want to live in any of them.

Seattle is so quite you can hear a lung collapse. Even the "thugs" out here are wusses. Sorry, but compared to the cities on the East Coast and in Cali, Seattle is nothing crime wise.

If you can't handle the crime in Seattle, than you can't handle the crime in any American city and had better move to the suburbs or the country.

I would say that recently crime has been on the rise. However, it still doesn't take away from the fact that most of the time the people getting shot are gang bangers. If you're just minding your own business, odds are very much against you getting shot.

You guys all know the news always reports the bad stuff first. Seattle is a pretty safe city compared to many Cities the same size on the east coast. Yes, be cautious Seattle has thugs, but don't panic over it.

I also forgot: the guy who got whacked on Pine (or was it Pike?) smack in the middle of downtown sounds like he got targeted by a mafia guy. The dude practically admitted it and asked the detective who was questioning him how old he was. When he said 52, the guy said "That's how old I'll be when I get out of jail." Very nonchalantly at that. VERY much smells like underground hitman style.

So unless you plan on joining a gang or get mixed up with the mafia, I wouldn't worry about it.

There are some bad areas that if you avoid you'll be fine. The area around the Space Needle is sketchy after dark. There are a few other areas to avoid after dark, but it's not as bad as many other cities.
