It's not haute cuisine, but you aren't paying for haute cuisine - you're paying for an experience, much like if you go to Benihana's. I think the individual who posted just above this has forgotten that point. Calling it "not very good" is pretty ridiculous, when one considers that you're being presented with shellfish that has been simply steamed in saltwater. There's not much you can do to shellfish when you're serving it in the shell. They couldn't very well put it in an alfredo sauce and then dump that on your table. It's still tasty that way. It's well worth the occasional trip.

Personally, I'd stay away from the one in Bellevue. Something is really lost in translation when you aren't actually eating *on* the waterfront.
mod cut:

The fact is, I detest the chains and their pre-cooked, uncreative, bland, Gap-audience fare. Clearly, the difference between frozen seafood and fresh is completely lost on you. My review and post was that the seafood is not very good stands, and there ARE many better seafood options in Seattle, and anyone who even slightly appreciates food would rather have food that tastes good rather than the "enjoyment" of smashing a crab with a mallet, which, among other things, smashes the crab meat to a pulp and sends it flying everywhere.

For the record, Benihana also sucks.

Where should one go for crab that isn't in cake form?

I've actually never had king crab legs, as the price usually intimidates me. I need to take the plunge some time, I suppose.

I would agree that the Crab Pot should be avoided. When I was in Seattle, I really enjoyed the Brooklyn. Excellent Seafood.

Chandler's Crabhouse. You really can't go wrong with them. Seafood in general, the best in town is probably SeaStar in Bellevue, which is fantastic. Make sure to get the deviled eggs there, as well. Trust me on this.

Buy your own crab legs at Fisherman's Terminal and take them home and bake them at 250 degrees to warm them up. Melt your butter for dipping, add a good salad and buttermilk biscuits and great bottle of wine...and mmmm...that has been our Seattle Christmas Eve dinner for the past 3 years!
