Desperately seeking German Shepherd friendly apartments (Seattle, Issaquah: HOA, insurance, house)

Hi! My husband and I are moving to Seattle in 1-2 months. We have an extremely well behaved and mild mannered German Shepherd. Unfortunately, I can find almost no apartments that accept German Shepherds and the apartments that do accept them have no available apartments. I would really appreciate any suggestions or advice. Thanks!

I have a German Shepherd as well. Great dog. He tends to bark at strangers, but never aggressive. He's just protective.

The unfortunate reality is if you own one of the 8 "bad PR" breeds (German Shep, Doberman, Pit Bull, Alaskan Malamute, Huskies, Rotties, Chows, or Presa Canarios), you're pretty much stuck opening a phone book and going down the list to find someone who will take on the risk. Even when you upgrade to a house you have to do checking on that, because many HOA's forbid them, and insurance companies will either refuse to insure you if you have one or charge you more if they are willing to take on the risk.

Which is kind of sucky for owners of Malamutes and Huskies, since they aren't aggressive breeds at all. Malamutes just get destructive when bored (chew crap up) and most human attacks by Huskies are attacks by "Huskie-like dogs", which typically means a Huskie bred with a wolf of some sort, since Siberians aren't aggressive, either.

I am finding it hard to believe that no one will accept a German Shepard. I have a couple of suggestions in downtown itself. The first is Rollin Street Flats... or else the Domaine. Rollin Street is by far the best possible option - but if you are really desperate, try the Domaine..they always have room - not the greatest place, newer - but interesting management.

I have two GSD's. It was a bit of a pain but I found a hand full that would accept them. Each building tends to have a strange list of unacceptable breeds. I ran into one building that wouldn't take teacup poodles.

But to answer your question, off the top of my head I know dexter apartments takes GSDs:

Most HOAs don't have rules against GSD's. I recently bought a house and have read quite a few CC&R's. I haven't come across a single HOA that has rules against them. The worst I've seen is regulations banning dog breeding an 'nuisance dogs' that mostly covers if you leave them outside and they bark all night long.

I don't know of any apartments in Seattle that wont accept Shepard's of German decent. I think you may have problems finding work in the area though, as shepherding really isn't in high demand in the States in the modern era.
