Beacon Hill is physically large. North Beacon Hill is pretty cool. It's got a light rail stop, is more ethnically diverse than most Seattle neighborhoods, and has some cool old buildings.
Still, there are parts that are less savory than others. The area near the light rail station and Beacon Hill library are pretty nice, and there are a fair number of Asian supermarkets and restaurants, and a couple of good Mexican restaurants. It's different than the " cool, hip" neighborhoods. I like it.
My sister lived on North Beacon Hill for years before they condo ized her apartment building. She loved living there. Certainly very convenient to downtown.

Beacon Hill has a large Asian community. That is all I am going to say.

I have lived in Seattle most of my life and know much of it but never really knew anything about Beacon Hill. About a year ago I decided to bicycle around and discover what is up there for a whole day. I though I'd find some lost neighborhood filled with cool little divey bars (my favorite) and some junk shops to comb through. Boy, was I wrong - nothining really to keep me there for more than a couple of hours. No neighborhood "downtown" like Ballard or Wallingford. I saw alot of homes and apartment buildings, a few businesses peppered around but nothing much of interest besides some views and that cool art-deco hospital.
But that's just me....maybe I missed something.
