Hi all: we are moving from Columbus Ohio to Seattle in just about a month. We are very excited, but one thing we're sad to give up in Columbus is our veterinarian. He is fantastic and treats both of our dogs very well. Does anyone have good recommendations for vets? We'll be living in Leschi, so of course convenience would be nice. On the other hand, if the best vet in the area lives really far away, we'll take our dogs there. Yep! We're those people.

Thanks!

Rainier Veterinary on Rainier Avenue just south of the International District is a good place, and not far.
If you're of a holistic bent, Dr Michael Lemmon of Highlands Veterinary in Renton is something of a miracle worker. He's got absolutely no people skills. But animals love him.

I found a great vet which is not in Seattle but they are located on Mercer Island but literally 2 minutes off of 90 MercyVet.com -- Your Companion Care Partner and Friend
This is a holistic vet practice and Dr. Obondo started the practice and is extremely knowledgeable and very kind and gentle with animals. She can be hard to get in to see but the other doctors are great too. I take my little chihuahua to see Dr. Nubrega and I really like her a lot as well as the girls that work in the office. One great thing is they have anesthesia free teeth cleaning which is so great. Not many vets offer this service and it's such a great way to have your dogs teeth clean without having to be put under every time (just a tidbit I thought I would share). If you are willing to travel a little, I really think you will be happy with them. Sometimes there is a waiting list so you would need to call to find out. Good luck!

Check out Rainier Beach Veterinary (not the same as Rainier Vet mentioned above) ... about 6 miles from Leschi. We have taken our dogs to Dr. Young for over 20 years. He is knowledgeable, thorough, kind and (most importantly) knows when to refer you to a specialist. And, he keeps his costs down, knowing much of his clientele does not possess a lot of disposable income. Check out his reviews ... many will call him the best vet ever.

Make sure to check out the Leschi Market when you make the move. An amazing selection of food and wines for a small grocery. Plus service is tops ... a family-run store for many, many years.

You bet! I've heard some wonderful things about the Leschi Market. I can't wait to check it out. It's within reasonable walking distance from our house too, so I will definitely take advantage of it.

The whole Leschi area is within walking distance or a short drive to a variety of grocery options. Can't wait!

There also appears to be a groomer just a five minute walk from our home and a good Italian restaurant as well. One month to go...

If you're talkin' about That's Amore ... it's pretty good. It's at the top of the hill on the very edge of what would be considered Leschi. Down by Leschi Mart on the lake are a few restaurants ... Blu Water Bistro (and predecessors) has been there for years .. reasonably priced good food. Great place in the summer for outside dining. Daniel's Broiler is the place if you don't mind paying $50 for a steak (and $10 for a salad and $10 for a vegetable side ...); a little outside my wallet range. There was a small Asian cuisine place there that's just recently closed and new place (don't know what it is) just opened.

Yep, That's Amore. I've heard good things. Also IRA likes Flying Squirrel Pizza, which is not within walking distance, but a short drive. Will definitely check it out! We like small Asian restaurants, so hopefully the new one you mentioned is good.

27 days until takeoff...

IRA does not like Flying Squirrel, he LOVES Flying Squirrel. Always wonder when I'm there if he's dining at the same time. Funny you mention not in walking distance. I live about 4.5 miles from Leschi ... on a nice summer evening, my wife and I love walking to Leschi for dinner and then walking home. Makes having dessert not such a guilty pleasure knowing you walked nine miles! Glad you're excited to make the move. BTW, I'm from Portsmouth (to your south) - most of my family is still in that area - very glad I'm not.
