Hello All,

I am fairly new to the Seattle area, and have been having a blast running around the region doing some photography. I am seeing that tomorrow is supposed to be a mostly clear day, so I am thinking of getting up to go to the beach in Edmonds to get some pictures of the Olympic Mountains as the sun rises, with the glow reflecting on them. So my question is, have any of you that are into photography done this from that spot, or anywhere else nearby on the Sound? Any tips as far as the best spot for getting this shot?

I keep a blog of interesting photography locations around the Seattle area - Seattle photo spots, Seattle Photography spots

This might be useful for other photographers as well.

A good spot is down by where I work on the waterfront, if you go out onto the end of Pier 70 (next to the Olympic Sculpture Park) you have a clear view of the olympics over the water except for any ships that might get in the way. You can also get up higher by going up the steps to the park near that Man/Child fountain.

I find there are some great sunrises also over the Cacades, visible from in front of my house in Sammamish, with the Carnation Valley below. I see it some mornings from the overpass that goes over I90 and connects Bellevue College and SE 38th.

Thanks for the responses- I had forgotten about my post on this. I did go out that weekend and several times since, never really got any great sunrise photos. I have been finding that sunset is a much better time to get shots on the sound, so that has been my focus lately.

Thanks for the update, jm!
I agree, sunsets tend to come out better - don't know why

There is a cemetery north of Auburn, just west of 167 that has a great view of Mt. Rainier. That would be a spectacular sunrise photo, catching the morning sun and the Mountain.

There is a point on Alki (closer to Salty's) that ia a good vantage point for sunset downtown pics. It looks as though you are in the middle of the Sound.
