If I'm heading south toward Spokane Street, is there any way to get onto eastbound Spokane between 1st and 6th avenues? My wife works near the corner of 1st and Holgate, and after dropping her off at work in the morning, I take Lander down to 6th Avenue and head to the I-5 South ramp. While I'm waiting for the light, I always see regular traffic coming off Spokane, mixed in with the buses from the SoDo bus route. It seems like every street either doesn't allow a left turn onto Spokane or doesn't go down that far, and all the construction around the West Seattle Bridge makes it even harder to get on. So I was just curious where the traffic was getting on. Also, 6th Avenue is bumpy and always backed up on the evening commute, so I was hoping that there might be a good alternative route. (Sometimes I just cut all the way down to Airport Way when I'm not in a hurry to get home.)

After dropping your wife off @ 1st and Holgate, you can then go a couple blocks north to the Edgar Martinez Dr. (where Safeco field is) which usually provide a fast access onto i5.

1st ave has a ramp onto W. Seattle bridge-- I can only assume it'll be choppier during your evening commute. I remember long ago my friend once got on Alaskan way, headed south, (Alaskan way which then became E. Marginal st.) then veered right on Spokane street. I never knew you didn't have to use the W. Seattle bridge to get to W. Seattle (from DT) until then.

But it's been over ten years since I've done those routes, I'm sure traffic gotten even more lousy since then. Hope this gives you an idea (or if I completely misread you, then oops, sorry!).

I'm with Inkpoe ... if your real objective is to get on I5 southbound ... go north on 1st toward safeco and take a right on Edgar Martinez Dr. Then, you avoid all the congestion you mention.

I know about Edgar Martinez Drive. I was just wondering how to get on eastbound Spokane when I'm heading south, anywhere between 1st and 6th avenues. I mostly just find it interesting that I always see cars on Spokane when I don't know where they get on.

Perhaps the cars you see are cars coming from the South and turning right onto Spokane.
