Me and my family are going to vacate in the Seattle area for a month this summer and I want to rent a house that is in a woodsy, green area, you know, with that real "PNW" feel, but that is also very close to shopping and restaurants and coffee (the wife demands it). Where should I be looking?

San Juans are excellent, though expensive. Check out the area around North Bend. I was just there yesterday doing some hiking, it is a very beautiful area. You can get a little place tucked away in the woods in a very rural setting, though still be minutes away from shopping, restaurants, and coffee!

Cle Elum is also a very nice area, though farther removed from Seattle than North Bend is. (Though fear not! Restaurants and coffee are to be had there too! For any shopping other than groceries, probably have go over the pass or go to Ellensburg. Wenatchee is about as far driving distance (time wise) from Cle Elum as Seattle is from Cle Elum).

I think North Bend is a great suggestion. There is this treehouse B&B in that little town which my friend raved about. (check this link: home)

Perhaps Bainbridge Island have something as well, you'd have the best of both worlds: access to Seattle DT (via ferry) and the wilderness of the Olympian peninsula (via rt. 305).

Sorry, your too late for that now. It's all suburban developments and shopping malls, -just like LA. Infact, Seattle is nothing more then an LA suburb now.

Ummm...No green areas? Nothing but malls? Like L.A. suburbs?
Come on, Vinylly, we know you don't want "foreigners" moving up there - but these folks are just coming for a month, for heaven's sake!

You can live in the woods within 5-6 miles of shopping, 1-2 miles from coffee in Sammamish, Isssaquah, Renton, Kirkland, Woodinville or Redmond. Also, farther out, Duvall, Snohomish and Monroe have woods and farm acreage.

Bellevue still has a few places with plenty of trees. West Seattle even has woodsy areas such as Fairmount Ave SW between Harbor Ave and SW Admiral Way.

seattle is absolutely nothing like L.A. i live in L.A. and can attest to this...L.A. is a total nightmare; seattle is the perfect blend of metropolitan and nature.

Probably the most difficult part of your wish is to find a house you can rent for just a month.

Check out sites like VRBO.com (vacation rentals by owner) - they sometimes have monthly rates.
