Hi, so I am moving to Seattle hopefully in the fall of 2011. I've only been a hairstylist for a little over a year now but still want to pursue it. What is the pay like in Seattle for a stylist? Any pointers and what not? I've never been there and it looks like it could be a blind move. But I really think this city is for me. Also, is it possible to just have one car between 2 people to get around? I know you can take the bus a lot or ride a bike...Thanks for the help!

Living in Seattle one car is enough, there is bus service and also zip cars available. I would think that it would be hard to afford a decent place to live
on starting level hairstylist pay, though. Probably $10-12/hour, rent for a studio in a safe area is about $800. I'd suggest looking at seattle jobs and apartment websites before deciding.

Thanks for the advice! Luckily I will be moving with my boyfriend who is looking for a motion design job there....so rent will be shared. But I appreciate any advice I can get...I live in a small town compared to Seattle.

A second incomer will help a lot. People coming here from your area are shocked at the higher prices of everything. It's not just Seattle but all of the west coast.

Good luck, I hope it works out well for you.

I have a question, can you further define the price of the city? We were looking at apartments and found a lot for $750 range..some in West Seattle and some in Queen Anne...Is that common or is that a bunch of bologna?

... that's not really unusual, but once lease is up, they will jack up the price. It's a landlord's market now.

Always look into the areas first. Usually you won't find something in DT Seattle that cost less than 600 dollars/mo. (If there is something less than that, be really wary.)
