We do splurge sometimes and make our own at home (when we can find good lox and edible bagels; we live 2-3 hours from civilization here in NM). Lucky you, in NYC!

They are certainly rare in a lot of places outside NYC aren't they!

My son lives in Portland, OR and when he visits, I drive him from and to JFK. He ALWAYS asks me to stop at a nearby bagel shop in Brooklyn on our way from the airport. And he frequently grabs a dozen to carry on the plane on the way back to Portland.

Which gives me an idea for when I move to the PNW soon: organize a local group wherever I settle to bring back quantities of bagels to share with the group when we visit NYC.
