I am thinking about moving away from Seattle. I would like to find a place that is different compared to Seattle. Maybe a place that is almost the opposite. Moving to a place that is similar Seattle seems pointless to me. Boston, Chicago, and San Francisco would be too similar to Seattle for me. So I am thinking about Texas. Perhaps the Houston area. Right now I am looking at a place north of Houston called "The Woodlands". Do any of you have an opinion in regards to a place that you would consider to be very different from Seattle? Try not to be sarcastic. Also, I would say that Miami is almost the opposite of Seattle. I guess it just depends on how you look at it.

Southern California reminds me of Seattle too much because I have known many people from Seattle who have lived in SoCal and many Seattle people who have 2nd homes down there. Plus, Seattle people travel down there all the time. Plus, Southern California is mostly liberal. Also, Southern California gets cold at night most of the year. Also, Southern California is just too close to Seattle. So for me I would have to say "The South" like Charleston, South Carolina or Texas like Houston or the Northeast like Philadelphia or Baltimore. However, I respect your opinion. I realize that we all have our own unique way of looking at things.

The most opposite place I can think of would be South Florida.

- Hot humid weather and afternoon thunderstorms in the summer
-Almost perfect winter weather. (Average Hi 79) (Average Low 62)
-Flat terrain, know mountains
-Small Asian community, Diverse Hispanic Community, more Blacks.
-economy is driven by tourism
-Palm Trees and Beaches with warm water.
-Aligators and various other reptiles.
-No state tax
-It's located in the very bottom southeast Corner of the Us.

Phoenix.

Rude drivers that go 100 mph on the highway, everyone drives a HUGE SUV, bland suburbia as far as the eye can see, really really hot in the summer (I was there when it was 115 deg, and yes its a dry heat, but IT'S F-ING 115 DEGREES!), very little rain, and low taxes and cheaper prices. Very small arts scene, a downtown that is dead, and basically nothing to do but shoot guns, watch NASCAR, and bake in the heat.

And I'm not being sarcastic.

You can't get much more opposite than Texas. The weather, the politics, the culture, Texas is completely opposite of Seattle. Sure Austin is ever-so-slightly less "Texas" than the rest but it is all Texas. Personally, I detest Texas with every ounce of my being. I had to travel there for work for many years. I've even had to edit this post to restrain myself. But if you're looking for the opposite of Seattle, if you like grass that grows gray and sparse, dirty dust everywhere, hot hot sun, the the constant sound of cicadas, flat terrain, western wear with varying degrees of flourish, suits with cowboy boots, breakfast with your butter, calf hair lampshades and switch plate covers, government and education vilified, church as a social requirement, (I personally think Dana Carvey based the Church Lady on someone from there) you'll love Texas.

Other areas similarly repellant include Arizona and Oklahoma. You will find the people very different, the weather super hot and dry and the politics/culture completely off-the-charts. Enjoy
