I will be moving to Seattle area and will be working in Enumclaw.

I'm in my mid-20's and would like to be near Seattle, but also would like my commute to Enumclaw be 30 minutes or less.

Looking around, it seems like Auburn and Kent would fulfill my need of being within reasonable distance of both Seattle and Enumclaw. However, I've been informed by coworkers that Auburn and Kent are a bit ghetto.

Any ideas on where to live?

I'm going to be looking for a one-bedroom apartment for around $700-$1000. I'd prefer to live in an apartment complex with full-time management. I'd also like to live in a decent area.

It seems like Maple Valley would work out for me, but there seems to only be a couple apartment complexes there and neither have very good reviews online.

I don't care about being close to anything in particular - just a decent drive to Enumclaw and Seattle. Looks like Federal Way and Puyallup might fit my criteria - but are they nice places to live?

All of the areas you mentioned have good and not so good areas, but none are really anything close to ghetto. If I were you I'd take a look at Covington. It too is mid way and has many nice but affordable apartments, and all of the
usual stores to shop at.

I wouldn't rule out Kent or Auburn. There are parts of both cities that are a bit "ghetto", but do people not live in Seattle because there are a couple of run down neighborhoods? Of course not. Both Kent and Auburn have nice areas, safe areas that are fairly convenient to both Seattle and Enumclaw.
I'd say Federal Way has larger nasty parts than either Auburn or Kent. Puyallup is also a mix of good and not so good. I'd suggest staying away from that part of Auburn near the Muckleshoot Casino and also that part of Auburn near the towns of Pacific and Algona.
Some parts of downtown Kent are a little seedy, and parts of Kent's East Hill are kinda sketchy, but there are some decent apt buildings just west of downtown, and parts of the East Hill are interesting and kind of nice.

Thanks for the replies guys. I went searching in the archive and it confirmed what you wrote - certian parts of Kurt and Auburn are good, others are sketchy. I looked around for Covington but there didn't seem to be much there.

Any comments about these two locations? Based on online reviews, these apartments seem to be okay. (Of course it's hard to tell with online reviews, since mostly people with negative experiences write reviews online for apartments):

22435 Se 240th St, Maple Valley, WA 98038

703 47th Street Se, Auburn, WA 98092

Default Kent Auburn

Covington does not have a good apartment inventory. As Ira suggested consider Auburn Federal Way and Kent. Renton is also good aound Petrovitsky which puts you half way between Seattle/ Bellevue and Enumclaw on 169. Bellevue comes alive and safe at night.
