Is this area "safe" to walk in? I mapquest-ed it and it said 2.1 miles. I notice there are a lot of hotels in the area by the train station and a few close to the space needle but can't figure out what's between there and the space needle. Of course, we would walk during the day, but want to get a feel for the type of neighborhood it is....nice residential, or run-down, unsafe, or what?

I walk from Westlake station tunnel every morning at 7am, barely light now,
through Pike Place Market to Alaskan Way. Despite a few homeless and other harmless characters it's never been a worry. Your walk is double the length but during the day should be perfectly safe, the biggest worry is cars
hitting you when they are anxious to turn and you are in the crosswalk. I'd take 5th to Denny, very busy with business people and shoppers.

You can also hop the monorail from Westlake to Seattle Center.
