This has been a dull spring, it seemed like we didn't get a glimpse of sky for a solid two months. El Nina was a little late this time so instead of being snowed in for winter we had a crappy spring. But it has been sunny for the last few days, things are picking up finally. I'm just glad I'm not in the Texas heatwave with wildfires.

I think pretty much the winter months suck everywhere and sometimes the early spring if winter lingers, you just have to pick what you are willing to put up with I imagine, and decide if you want to battle snow? Rain? or would you rather bake year round in a desert environment. Our weather sucks here too right now, its stinking cold, record high winds and yesterday we had snow, severe thunderstorms and hail the size of golfballs alternating, and sometimes together, for a 24 hour period. But there are buds on the trees as I am sure there are there and you have that lovely green grass Summer really is coming if everyone can just hold on for it
There have been no volcanic eruptions of any size that would cause the weather conditions in the NW. You are seeing the effects of a La Nina, ocean currents, which have nothing to do with volcanos.

Mounty, where else have you lived? A lot of it is relative. Someone who's lived in, for example San Diego, and had to relocate would be pretty much screwed, because the climate anywhere else will comparatively suck. I've lived in the Midwest, Southeast, Texas, Western New York, Michigan..... and Washington feels like paradise to me. The only other places I'd rather live (strictly in terms of weather) would be Colorado or San Diego. Go move to St Louis or Indianapolis or some other city for a year, and you'll be begging to come back! =)

As others have said, different strokes for different folks. If someone is unhappy with the weather here I would hope they do get the opportunity to leave- no reason to stay somewhere that makes you miserable.

I moved here 2 years ago from the Midwest (Nebraska), and I must say the weather here is a huge improvement. We don't have the long, bitterly cold winters with a dead, brown landscape covered by dirty snow. Then in the Summer we don't have the endless high heat and humidity that they have back there- in places like that you really only have a couple months each year that are truly comfortable. That describes a large portion of the country, actually. To get truly good weather that is all around better than here you are really limited to southern California.

Did you forget the volcano in Iceland? It errupted more than once and had so much ash in the air that all the way to the UK flights were being delayed. It doesn't just effect the area in which the volcano is.

True .. and the Cascadia Subduction Zone is a Very Large Threat, and it is here in this area but it does not equate equally to the items I listed and thats why I didn't list it.

Why ... Because it's Cycle is once every 300 to 500 years and the items on my list are mostly dailey, monthly, annually, etc.

I have lived here for 76 years and it hasn't happen once.

I didn't include Volcanos either because of there Rare eruptions in this country.

They are also mostly very Area Specific.

Why is the weather so weird this spring? (Discovery News) - seattlepi.com

Says here that we're seeing the effects of an unusually strong La Niña.

You could move here to the south and have 2-3 months of 90+ weather. Heat indexes will be over 100 for at least one of those. I remember one morning in particular last August, when our heat index was just under 110 by 10am. And TN is cooler than a lot of the south! In all seriousness, you may like it. Houses are definitely cheaper, and from what I keep hearing traffic isn't as bad (though when I visited Seattle the traffic didn't seem especially bad to me). In fact, I have a house I'll sell you!

Looks like Texas got all y'alls heat because we've already had several days hit 90. You probably think that sounds good when you are chilly, but factor in the extreme humidity here. I can't stand it. I'm cryin' already and it's not even Summer! Let's trade places please!

There's good and bad about every single place on this planet. But sometimes when you've been somewhere a while, you are ready for some different bad...
This^ Some people love heat and sun and hate cool, cloudy weather, and others hate overly sunny and hot weather (me). Also, I'm convinced that some of us humans are simply made to wander. I think some of us can't stand to live in one place our entire lives, and after 32 years of my current location (and especially climate) I'm more than ready to move. Maybe the OP is just like me, but lives in the climate I want to be in. Maybe he/she needs to live in my climate. And in 20-30 years we may both want to switch back!

No, I didn't forget that volcano, but the amount of ash that has to be emitted to affect the climate is hundreds/thousands of times what that volcano emitted. Something along the lines of a Mt. Pinatubo eruption would affect the climate, not the Iceland eruption, which was pretty minimal but happened to be in the trans-Atlantic flight path.
