Apparently the viaduct replacement tunnel dig has revealed buried forests. It would be great if samples of these buried forests were sent to a local museum so we could see them. What a rare opportunity! I hope the forests are not just thrown away.

Thanks for posting, good article. We just did the Underground Tour again over Labor Day Weekend. I bet they are finding a lot of interesting things. Webcams might be impractical but they could be fun.

I think they will be probably uprooted and put somewhere at best. At worst they'll just dig through them. In fact I'd wager they prefer to kill the entire forest because if you don't then they'll grow back and potentially cause the tunnel to be structurally unstable.

That's the nature of engineering. Surprises around every turn and you gotta do something about it. Can't delay it any longer because the current viaduct is being blasted and is dangerous to drive on. They're sort of in a pinch here.

Pretty much the only thing that could delay them at this point would be to find ancient ruins from the native tribes.
