As a sidenote - driving from SW Florida to Seattle in 3 1/2 days with 3 people and a dog in the car does cause you to lose some sanity. Especially when driving through Texas (which I found to be worse than Florida, and that's saying a lot).

On the upside though! We got to our apartment at 3am Friday and love everything about everything so far. I don't think we could have picked a better place (Upper Queen Anne), and our friends here have already taken us to some really awesome spots. Quite disappointed in both Target stores we've been to, haha. They're just so... Blah here. Good for the wallet though since it means I won't be spending my free time wandering around there.

Anyways! I want to thank everyone who gave some great advice here on this city. I can't wait to explore it even more!

Congrats! I can't believe you did all that in 3.5 days!! I will be following in April! BTW, how was the drive through the mountains and all? Did you have any issues with winter weather? I'm hoping I don't encounter any late April. And yes, sorry you had to experience Texas, it is awful

LOL. I concur on the Texas part... I took the 10 all the way through (the 2 other people with couldn't last more than 45 mins driving, so did the whole 10 myself). I was almost quite... mad at the end.

As for Target... they're soon putting in a Target in DT Seattle (Belltown area). Its suppose to be better than the Northgate one. Business & Technology | Target buys space for retail store downtown | Seattle Times Newspaper

Welcome to the Northwest. Hope you are enjoying the amazing weather today, it's never 55 January 1st!

I have never seen a Target store that wasn't blah.

Be sure to stop at Menchie's, 2101 Queen Anne Ave N for a self-serve frozen yogurt. They encourage sampling. Also, have a meal at the 5 Spot
a few blocks away at 1502. I had lunch there the other day and they have a very cool and unusual decor. Decent food too!

Lol, we actually live above Menchies! We went to 5 Spot the morning we came in, but we knew it was awesome from our first visit out here. The Northgate Target and Southcenter Target are the ones I've been to. Compared to the MASSIVE ones that are in Florida the flow and lack of produce just make me blah about it.

As for our route. We took 10 through The panhandle, MS, LA, then took the middle route thru Texas (Dallas to Amarillo). Into NM (which had snow everywhere BT was never an issue), AZ, stopped in Vegas for a night, up thru Reno, over into a small part of Cali (drove thru Lassen Natl Forest and Mt Shasta - at night which was CRAZY), and then thru Oregon to Seattle.

The mountains were never bad and it was actually really nice. I only had one issue and that was a bit of elevation sickness in AZ when we stopped for gas.

Love the clear view of the ranges and Rainier today! My stepdaughter came with us to check it out so we're taking her to Kerry Park to get the best view this afternoon. We watched the fireworks last night from Alki and damn what an awesome view that is!

Welcome to Seattle! We have done that exact route through Lassen National Forest many times as we have some family out there. It's pretty quick but making it from Florida to here in 3 1/2 days is the fastest I've heard even though I would be bolting across Texas too.

We consider Target the slightly better discount store so if you think that's bad, wait til you see Walmart.

You're getting ridiculous weather right now, everyone's talking about it. Don't think this is normal but enjoy it while it's here. A few years ago we had this really mild spring, it would be great if we had one of those this year.

You should take advantage of the weather and do some touristy things before the busy-ness of work takes over. We took some family to the Underground tour, the lunch at the top of the Space Needle and the ferry across to Bainbridge for a day trip in Poulsbo, they loved it.

The larger Targets with food are on the eastside, Redmond and Issaquah but may still not be what you are used to. The best produce I have seen in Seattle is down in Ballard at the Ballard Market near 15th & Market, and during summer, at the Pike Place market.

Three and a half days that is nuts. And yes crossing Texas can be a real test. At least they have realized how bad it is, and they are increasing some of the speed limits to 85!
