Don't think it's as easy peasy as that... there are hills and and from the waterfront to Pike Place Market, lots of steps to contend with. So make sure you got good walking shoes!

The Pike Place Market overlooks the waterfront but is not on the waterfront. When you're walking north along the waterfront , you'll see the Pike Hillclimb, a monstrous set of stair with shops along the way. At the top of the stairs is the market, or there are elevators along the way to minimize the stair climbing. Zig Zag is along the stairs and an excellent place for a cocktail. Procopio is an Italian ice cream place very close by, excellent and addictive.

You can "walk" to the Space Needle from the Pike Place Market as well. Well, sort of. Simply walk the 4 blocks straight up Pike St. to the West Lake Center where you can hop the Monorail right to the foot of the Needle. Since there is only one stop you can't possibly miss it. If you are lucky enough to be in Seattle when the sun is shining, the Space Needle at sunset will bring tears to your eyes. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Monstrous set of stairs huh? lol Sounds like a perfect reason not to run a few miles tonight then!

Leaving our hotel what would be the best way to get to the Pike Place Hillclimb? Sorry for the remedial questions! I just like having a sense of direction as I know that's where we are headed tomorrow evening! Thanks again!

From the waterfront, Alaskan Way, there are steps or an elevator by the Marriott and a skybridge that go up to Western Ave where it's a short walk to
the market. I walk every day from Pier 69 through the market to catch the bus at Westlake and that is one mile. You get a good view of the working waterfront and on a clear day the snow covered Olympic mountains from Pier 70 and the Olympic sculpture park nearby.

I'm assuming your hotel is the one on Cherry st and 2nd? Well, from there to Pike Place Market... just go west on Cherry st (so basically toward the water), then turn right onto 1st ave... and walk up half a mile... it's will be uphill. If you're wanting to walk along the waterfront, forget about turning right, turn left go to the Pioneer SQ and proceed to the waterfront (which isn't far off from the Pioneer SQ)... it'll be level.

Believe me... if you're lost... JUST ASK ANYONE on the street... they will be helpful and direct you.

Oh nice! I just switched Google Maps to satellite and all that makes much more sense now actually seeing the waterfront walkway! Duh, should have done that sooner! haha A nice walk up the waterfront if it's still (maybe!) light out when we start out down to Pike Place Market and then back up Western, 1st or 2nd on the way back? Any one of those more "fun" than another?

At least I'll understand you better than the Japanese tourists we get all summer!

Watch it walking down 3rd at night, it's where all the nuts, drug dealers and hookers hang out. First is more interesting as far as buildings and shops.
