The level of violence in the city of Seattle seems to have gone nuts this year... this is merely the city's latest unsolved shooting, this time involving a young bystander...

Police: Woman shot in neck was random victim

Quote:
Of the 12 homicides in Seattle this year, 10 have been shootings. That overall homicide number is atypical for Seattle, which for the last two years had a homicide rate comparable to the 1950s.
It's worth noting that Vancouver only has three murders so far this year. Seattle citizens and police should pay attention to whatever they are doing up there - it appears to be working.

It definitely has a 'safer' feel to it than other major cities I've been to. Crime happens everywhere, but Seattle is much better compared to other major cities.

I moved here from LA and it feels a lot safer. That is why it's so shocking to read these stories. I think, "this really happened here!?" I'm in Pioneer Square as I write this too.

I don't think Seattle is the most dangerous city. However, it is also not the Safest city either. And Pioneer Sq is a real sketchy place to be....especially at night. Hell, last year some guy was killed for buying medical marijuana.

its not that out of character for the area consider all the police officers that have been killed in the last 5 years.

even in rural areas there are murders. On whidbey this past october a man killed his grandparents with an ice axe.

Pioneer Square is very 'creepy' at times even during the day, so I can't imagine at night. I think Seattle is like anywhere else and it depends sometimes on where you are that you see the most 'drama'. I am not saying it is the 'safest', but honestly I feel the safest here compared to some other major cities I've been in..(so far)..

Pioneers square has ambulances and police cars stationed near by at night. It's definitely the most "unsafe" part of Seattle by a fair clip.

I think it's also very disturbing that no suspects have even been identified in this case, let alone arrested. Seattle has had 13 murders so far this year alone, and there seems to be an attitude of impunity among the people who open fire in the city. And with so few arrests, it's tough to say they are wrong about that. Apparently in downtown Seattle, you can indeed shoot a young woman in the neck (right out in the open on a public sidewalk), murder her, and get away with it.
