Capitol Hill would be where it's at. I am a straight female, but every weekend I go to gay clubs like R Place and Neighbors. They are always packed. Can't attest to the weeknights. Many businesses in Capitol Hill have rainbow flags hanging outside their shops. There are tons of LGBT support organizations here.

Seattle isn't as genuinely granola as outsiders think. It's still very corporate here. Most of the "hippies" I encounter here are recent transplants who are trying way too hard to live the "hardcore Northwest" lifestyle, thinking that shopping at Anthropologie, doing yoga, and eating overpriced organic food makes them a NW hippie. But they can be avoided.

What you see more of in Seattle are 30-something yr old housewives in North Face jackets pushing strollers and sipping organic coffee. That one surprised me. I would thought that a liberal city would have less housewives due to women wanting to advance in careers. But Seattle women are more likely to be stay at home moms than the women in my conservative Midwestern town.

I have a lot of friends who work part time. Day care is very expensive - it can cost so much, especially with more than one child, that it requires one income to pay for it. So for many couples, it's not worth it. In my friends' cases that work part time, they either have a nanny or the grandparents watch the kids on those couple of days. Their husbands also make a very good living. I should mention that I have one colleague whose husband stays home with the kids.
