Hi Everybody,

I may have to relo with my family to Seattle for a job. My wife and I have two young children and we're small town kind of people. Should we move, I don't know what areas are safe, affordable, decent schools, etc. I'm willing to commute via ferrys to downtown Seattle (job) so outlying areas are not off limits to us... I'm not accustomed to bad commutes so I don't want to have to drive/commute in traffic - don't think I could handle that actually. We LOVE sailing so we would enjoy anything near water/marinas...even small ones. Can anyone give me some advise? I've heard that the Bremerton area is not too bad but I have no point of reference. Thanks in advance for any advice.

The Bremerton ferry crossing is an hour each way to Seattle, I believe. That's a pretty brutal commute, if you're doing it every day.

You didn't provide a definition of "affordable," but Edmonds and Kirkland are examples of nice waterfront towns.

Hmm... ferry life shouldn't be synonymous with "affordable" because it is pretty pricey and is only bound to go up. Unless you take the bus and be a "walk-on".

Bremerton is... ok. You could try Bainbridge Island, however-- since you're using the word "affordable", I don't know if you could find something (since its not generally considered an "affordable" kind of area). For ferry life, I'd rec Poulsbo before Bremerton, though.

As previous poster said: "What is affordable?"
