Hello all, I just moved to Seattle about a week and a half ago and I love it! Been vehemently looking for jobs and I just landed a full-time gig in the U District working for an NPO. I will be living in Edmonds/Mountlake Terrace for the next few months (until September) and then I'll be moving to the Queen Anne area. The hours are 10am-6pm M-F. My questions are as follows:

1. What's the I-5 like around those times? There seems to be no rhyme or reason to the traffic.

2. I work in a suite on 45th Street, right by Neptune Records. Will I have to pay for parking every single day until I move closer or is there some free parking nearby?

3. Does anyone know if the bus line goes from Queen Anne to the U District?

I appreciate the help.

You're cute... "free parking", LOL. That time has pass. If there is an area that offers free parking, the competition will be very severe and would require a long walk. Honestly, since right now you're living up Edmonds/MLT-- just use that huge Park n Ride off of i5 ( Mountlake Terrace Freeway Station - SoundTransit ... use bus #511)

Traffic-wise, going home will be harder than going to work.

I don't know of a direct/no-transfers bus to QA-->U District. Likely you'll be using bus #71. Be sure to use metro trip planner: Trip Planning

Could you just park at UW? The have big parking lots, the one by the gym was pretty big and I think was $4 for the whole day. Only problem was it was on campus.

Ok, so a bus from Edmonds/MLT would take like 1.5 hours and cost around 9 bucks. That's silly for a daily trip. I think I'd be safe just paying for parking for these 2 months until I get to Queen Anne to take the bus..

Ok, can someone confirm if I am reading the route correctly in these links:

511 | Ash Way - Seattle - SoundTransit
Community Transit: Route 511 Schedule

If I leave by the Mountlake Terrace Facility by the I-5 and take the 511 9:38 AM route, it will get me to the U District by 9:51 AM, right?

Sorry if I sound really dumb, I have NEVER used public transit in my life and I've only been in WA 10 days..

That is correct. Do remember it is estimated time (and they're usually pretty good about keeping close to schedule).

You should see whether your company will pay a portion of your bus monthly fare. Also, getting a ORCA card will help lower the cost as well (look into getting it "pre-set". Just don't forget to get rid of the pre-set when you move to Queen Anne. The FAQ on Fares will explain about the "pre-set".) https://www.orcacard.com/ERG-Seattle/p1_001.do

I'd recommend parking inside the facility at MLT P and R.
My vehicle was vandalized last week at this facility, after 15+ years
of parking here. Very little security if any, but these things do happen.
