I plan to be in Seattle/Bellevue end of September. Think it would be too cold to kayak on Lake Washington along the shoreline?

I think it would be too cold to swim in Lake Washington at the end of September, but plenty of people kayak on the lake then. I walk past the boat house on the lake in Renton where they rent kayaks and canoes, and people are out kayaking then. You may need to dress a little warmer. The other issue is rain. It can and does rain here at the end of September.

+1

I used to kayak pretty regularly, and in terms of temp you can generally kayak Apr-Oct. Rain is the more signficant limiting factor. While some people do kayak in the rain, personally I don't enjoy it very much.

Sept is generally a pretty nice time for kayaking, though the weather toward the end of Sept might be a bit dicey; sometimes it's nice, sometimes it's drizzly/rainy.

September is a great time to kayak on the lake. The temperature doesn't really start to drop until about October 10, more or less. September often is an extension of summer, if it doesn't rain. You can rent a canoe or kayak, at the University of Washington waterfront center. If you go on a weekend, go early to beat the crowd and make sure you can get what you want. It's the perfect season to paddle around the marshes and see wildlife, and you can also take your craft out on Lake Washington.

Lake Washington is too cold for swimming anytime! But still warmer in July than the Sound, right? Good to hear that you've seen folks kayaking in Renton late Sept. Guess I'll pack the precip gear. Getting a kayak with a drink holder so maybe can stop at SBUX for a hot mocha!

Actually, there are a lot of people who swim in Lake Washington in the summer months, especially at beach parks like Coulon and Magnuson. I think that the water temperature is probably in the high 60s mid-summer.

We went kayaking in Lake Union yesterday and it was wonderfully warm to be out on the water.

Not a drop of rain in August in Seattle. I'm actually ready for some precipitation. And so is our lawn.
