Hi. I left West Seattle 30 years ago and have wanted to go back ever since. I'm finally doing so next week. It's only a one-week visit but it's a start. I'm sure that a lot has changed in the past 30 years (grin) and I guess I'm a bit nervous about seeing all the changes. I was there when the first Starbucks opened and my biggest enjoyment was walking along the docks, which are apparently built up now.

I'm going to go back to the West Seattle street where my kids and I lived. (I paid $40,000 for that house in 1971; today it's appraised at @ $300,000 with no apparent improvements since then.) And I'm anxous to see Pike Place, which was just a simple farmers market then. Does anyone have any suggestions about what else to visit/see/do during the week? Too, does anyone know what the weather is projected to be next week? I want to pack light. Thanks so much!!!

Thanks, scirocco and mayfair. scirocco, your photos are awesome. They really touch on the soul of the city. And, yes, they do show me that my visit may be as bittersweet as it will be fun. Nothing looks the same. Of course, I didnt really expect it to...

I hope your week back to the area will be great, firewheel. First, a correction ...we have to give credit to who it's due, most of those pictures are from member pwright1.

Yes, you'll see that a lot of things have changed in the past 30 years but yet I'd imagine you'll find a lot of things that have stayed the same. The Seattle area was undergoing some fundamental changes back in the mid-70's.

Enjoy you stay.
