The CVT still makes hard shifts going up hill in the mountains (thus the auto manual shift being awesome). The CVT is good for saving gas as it will shift to the highest gear possible to save fuel.

I have driven a CVT into Mt. Rainier National Park from HWY 12 before, I didn't notice it nearly as much as I did with my own car that was an automatic (old model, though 1999). I agree with the manual tranny, though, I prefer to stay away from those. I just prefer not to deal with shifting.
