Call us crazy in Seattle and the Puget Sound area (I know the rest of you do already). The competitive conversation often goes like this, "I got a great deal on some boots, 30 percent off. Oh yeah, I got mine for 50 percent off post winter sale. Oh yeah, I got mine at Value Village (local thrift store) for $15. Oh yeah, I got mine for nothing on Freecycle". Anyway, here is my most excellent score of the day, $150 Merrell boots for $15. Sweet. What kind of deal have you gotten recently?

I think that exclaiming one's delight at scoring a good deal is a behavior not unique to the Northwest.

Atlanta is the only place I've been where puffery and "I spent sooo much" is the norm.

Of course not, we just seem to do a lot of it out here. "The millionaire next door" in Seattle often means that the person next door who is quite wealthy is living in a 2 bedroom bungalow intentionally, trying to simplify and be a minimalist. They may also have an ancient Volvo with 250,000 miles on it. Truly.

Sounds preferable to grandiose ostentation, to me.

Honestly, I would not buy $15. boots unless I already owned a pair, liked them and was buying a back up. I would assume something was wrong with them.

Nada! Non! No! Please do not let this become another "I love/I hate Seattle" thread. I am on my knees, fine gentlemen. Take it outside! Keep your eyes on the prize, in this case the thrift store or garage sale prize. Tell me your finds, your scores. The winner gets a public acknowledgement on this forum by me with four stars
