Hi all,

I will be relocating to Washington from New Jersey in December as part of a new job. My job will be based at Seattle DT. The plan is to take an apartment in Bellevue and commute via the 550 express bus to Seattle everyday. I did some research on the internet and found a few nice apartments close by to South Bellevue Park & Ride.

Now to make this all work, a lot depends on how much parking is available during the morning rush hours which brings me to the main question. How good are my chances of finding a parking space at Bellevue P&R between 7:45 to 8:15 AM? What are my options if I am not able to find one? I am a bit lost on this 'parking' bit and hoping that it does not affect my overall plan. Let me know your thoughts on this.

Thanks for your help!

Cheers,
Danny

My wife the former bus driver says that the South Bellevue Park and Ride gets filled up early. If your apartment is really close to the S. Bellevue Park and Ride, you could walk it and then the parking wouldn't be an issue. Or drive a couple of miles further to the Eastgate Park and Ride, which has a lot more spaces for cars.

Also consider apartments in downtown Bellevue. You would have walking access to a transit center and there are a lot of amenities within walking distance too. Some of the rentals there are pricey, though.

As Ira notes, the Eastgate P&R has a lot of spaces, especially in the morning. I use it fairly regularly, and there is plentiful parking available in the morning. There seems to be a bit of problem with students at Bellevue College using it for classes later in the day (I've sometimes been unable to find a spot at midday), but the powers that be seem to be trying to enforce the "no student parking" rules at Eastgate.

Hi guys,

Thanks for all your replies! It was helpful for me to get some idea on this.

At Eastgate P&R, I suppose the 550 express bus does not stop there. Are there any other buses to Seattle instead to go from there?

Thanks,
Danny

Metro Transit's 212 Express goes from the Eastgate Transit Center to DT Seattle.

I suggest that you find an apartment that is within walking distance of a 550 bus stop, leave your car at home, and skip the park & ride. There are a ton of apartments on and around Bellevue Way that are within walking distance of 550 stops.

Doing a mini-commute to the P&R is very tough on a car anyway, IMO. If you're only driving your car 5 minutes to & from the P&R, it is never getting fully warmed up, and that is bad news.

If you get an apartment in the vicinity of Main St. and Bellevue Way, you will be within walking distance of Safeway, Bellevue Sq. Mall, and tons of other stuff, along with the 550 stop.

Also, the 216 (my bus) stops there at the freeway station, a short walk from the garage.

Danny,
Think about looking on Mercer Island. Several busses to Seattle, including the 550, stop at the P&R there. Unfortunately, the lot fills really early but if you are in DT Mercer Island you can walk over in less than 5 minutes. It's a 10 minute bus ride to DT Seattle and there are several apartment options, newer and older buildings. Great parks, grocery stores, eateries nearby. Check it out!
