OP, you should DM one of our posters, VeronikaW. She lives in Duvall and her husband commutes to Redmond for MS... she'd be the person to talk to in RE: commute times. I think she also mentioned something about a MS bus going to Duvall and that Duvall has plenty of other MS employees living there.

Thanks, I will message her. Based on everyone's posts, we are now looking at Woodinville and Duvall. Fall City is a bit small - I want the small town thing but big enough where my kids can make lots of friends and have options for school activities.

We live in Duvall, and my hubby works at Microsoft. They're doing some road construction so his commute was taking about 45 minutes. In no traffic you can get to MS in about 25 minutes from Duvall. There's also a Connector that travels to and from Microsoft from Duvall. Unfortunately, they moved my hubby's team to a building off the I-90, so that was a little sucky, but it's actually only taking him about 45 minutes that way, too, it's further away, but he encounters very little traffic.

I love Duvall. I'm so glad we chose it. Recently a house was flooded when a beaver dam broke. Watching the community outpouring of support for that family made me so happy to live here. You really do get a feeling of community here, one I never felt when we lived in Issaquah. People are just so friendly here. I really can't imagine a better place to live. I'm hoping to stay here until my kids graduate from high school (and the first doesn't start kindergarten until next year!).

V. =)

With all due respect to the challenges of commuting, I'm actually quite curious about the initial title of this post that hasn't really been addressed: crime in and around North Bend.

I'll be looking for a rental house soon, and while I'd prefer Carnation or Duvall, they're very small towns with only a handful of places on craigslist every month. When you combine North Bend, Fall City, and Snoqualmie, they seem to have more available. But those stats for North Bend are giving me pause as well...

Any thoughts? No kids, so schools aren't an issue. And I'm already local, so there'll be no culture shock

PigeonCoup - I do not have any knowledge of the crime in NB (obviously, since I asked about it in the first place) but I will say that when I looked around there and spoke to the people, everyone I talked to seemed to have no idea why I would think crime might be an issue. So who knows? Maybe it's something to do with how the stats are reported. I will say that one thing that gave me pause is that we would look at a really nice house and then right next door or behind it would be a shack-type house. Maybe that is just the listings we were looking at, but figured I would mention it. We have decided to focus our search elsewhere due to the commute from NB to Redmond, but the views were stunning - I would love to live with those views. Good luck!

While I have not seen of heard of crime in the residential areas of North Bend, they do have a Casino now. I wouldn't be surprised if there was an increase in crime due to police calls around there, since there will be people drinking and gambling addicts running out of money.
It looks like the biggest increase was thefts.

North Bend shows having above the national average for crime while Duvall shows very low crime. Hello
I moved to North Bend 2 years ago to live with my mom. She has lived here for about 10yrs (the property has been in her family since 1974 .The crime rate is fairly high when it comes to car thefts, burglaries. There is also a high rate of drug related deaths (heroin). Young kids(jr high, high school) are getting hooked on heroin & meth. I wouldnt recommend moving to North Bend if you have children who will be attending school here in the area. I have a brother who is 22yrs old hes lived here for 4yrs and still has not gone out and met a sinhle friend due to the facts he doesnt want to go meet the kind of people who live out here.

North Bend covers a large area, and has a lot of economic diversity, but it feels safe to me! It is a friendly small town, imo. The views are stunning and the lack of traffic/congestion is a great perk.

Here are some informational videos about North Bend (from the city of North Bend's website): North Bend, WA - Official Website - Video Tour

Sorry i missed this thread. The crime statistics appear to be skewed by some unknown force. By that I mean there just doesnt seem to be alot and I can't find anyone who can support a claim of high crime rate. Sure, we have property crime here and there, and we have had a couple of very high profile crimes that may have led to people "feeling like there is more crime than there is.

North Bend is great for access to skiing and winter sports only 20 miles up the highway, lots of festivals in town, water sports, climbing and a good selection of restaurants. you also have easy access to the casino for some great meals and fun if you like that environment. You also have Rattlesnake Lake just up the road for great hiking and fishing. Lastly, you have the outlet mall which is super convenient for shopping. There is a reason the nicer homes are being built here and that's because its a great place to live.

As for the drive, I have to disagree with most people on here, and i do live here. First if you have to commute, you can't beat the beauty of I90. Its wide open and rarely any traffic issues from town to Issaquah. You can be down at the stadiums in 35 minutes, with easy access on and off the highway. I drive to the 520 and 148th area daily and it takes my 35 to 40 minutes. It will not take an hour to get to MS unless you drive very slow. Of course all bets are off for any commute if there is an accident. Duvall is closer, but NB is not as bad as some here would have you believe.

I think North Bend is pretty safe. It doesn't feel like a traditional suburb, more like a small little town that's somewhat isolated from the greater Seattle area. Commuting from there via I-90/405/520 will be a pain. An alternative is to take Exit 15 on I-90 then catch E Lake Sammamish Parkway. Many Microsoft employees who reside in Issaquah/Sammamish do that. It goes directly to Redmond.

Duvall and Woodinville are good options. I know that a lot of Microsoft employees are moving into the Bothell/Woodinville areas because they are decent places with reasonably-priced homes (relative to most Seattle suburbs) that are pretty close to the Microsoft campus.
