So my fiance has a felony on his record, arson. He did 8 years, he is 27. was down at 16 for this. First and only crime he ever commited. He works full time and we mind our own, live our life. We are expecting our first child in March, a little girl, and looking to move from the filthy ghetto of lakewood (we live in a 1 bedroom tiny apt, cause it was the only place we could get). Trying to find a spot closer to seattle so his commute to work is shorter, two hours driving time round trip every day really is burning the wallet and the car. Please help with information. Dont smoke, dont do drugs, no gang activity, just a white couple looking to move to a safer neighborhood before our daughter gets her or soon after. We have had our place broken into twice since we moved her in april of this year, racially attacked, our cars vandalized, and followed around the complex. Not very fun if you ask me. Been looking for a place since may!!! However because he has Arson on his record and hasnt been out 7 years we are being screwed. Really need some help and advice. He was 16 for crying out loud and made a mistake with idiot friends that he ended up getting all the beef for because, as it states in the reports he has the highest IQ and is smarter then the other children so they pinned him the mastermind. We got lucky with this, the really nice manager gave us a chance, we pay rent on time if not a week early, bills paid early as well or on time. We are both responsible. Just looking to move to a safer area close to his work.

Do you have a clean record? Is it possible to rent a place just in your name? I know they usually want a list of occupants but perhaps there is a way to avoid that. I know it's tough...you just want to live your life without feeling trapped by your surroundings. The best way may be to call around and start asking. Also, what about a landlord that you deal with personally instead of the big complexes that make you sign your life away?

If you're able to explain your exact situation to an actual person who makes the decision, you might leave a good impression. You may pay a higher deposit, but it might work. I wish you an abundance of luck...with the apartment and the baby!!

i appreciate your post, but i am trying to imagine a billboard advertising an apt as felon friendly, or pit bull friendly or child molester friendly. would i apply for rental at that complex?

pit bull friendly would be nice lol. but i see what your saying, however some felonies i can see they dont want living there. However, im not asking for a billboard. Im asking for a place or places people may know of that rent to felons. chomo's, murderers, gangs, i wouldnt apply there. But some felonies that didnt involve hurting a human being (child or adult) or animal, ecspecially commited as a kid and paid there time got out not on parole or probation, where are they expected to live? the street? couch hopping? understand what im saying? Just looking for a place that allows felons a chance to live and build there credit. we got lucky at our complex lol.

You're welcome...and I do understand. People who live a spot-free life may never be able to fully understand not getting what you want when you want it...or what you need when you need it. One might think it's easy to get an apartment but nowadays, it's really quite difficult. I had some financial difficulty with my house...which made getting an apartment very difficult. But I needed a place to live so I had to make sacrifices...not ones I ever thought I'd have to make.

Life goes on though and you find a way to live, but it just isn't always a cake walk. ANYWAY...... I'd still try to call around the smaller places with an actual landlord (who may be onsite) and try that way. My nephew works for some guy (fish plant?? no idea) who also rents out studio apartments. There are still small time landlords who do other things so you might find one with a heart.

I think since you're relying on your guy's income, you'll just have to keep at it. Maybe Craigslist? Do you have family in town or are they in CA? Maybe a parent or someone can co-sign...of course, you'd have to be on the ball in keeping up with payments but maybe that's the way to go.

THis is just overall advice...I have to wonder if a Seattleite can offer something more concrete??

They're supposed to stash some of their ill-gotten gains and buy a house with it.

We're not talking about one mistake or risk here. This girl is going to have a rough life ahead of her.

True that her life may be rough...and she didn't make the mistake she's referring to...her BF did...I absolutely know where you're going with this but I think she's doing the best she can and asking for advice on where to look for a place to live. She didn't ask us if her BF is the one for her...she didn't ask us if she should raise her baby alone...we can think what we like but it's not fair to judge her.

Meanwhile, making fun of her circumstance isn't really helpful...do you have a suggestion...that's helpful?
