HI,

Can anyone share Mercer Island to Downtown (Virginia Ave/ 7th) commute times during AM and PM rush hour? We are thinking of relocating to Mercer Island from the east coast and I will be working at Amazon downtown off Virginia.

thanks

Hi!

I just moved here last week and I live on Mercer Island now, too!

While I don't officially start my new job until Monday, I have been driving to downtown Seattle and back various times the past two days to get an idea of the commute time.

If you leave at:

5:30AM - expect almost no traffic, should take you ~10 minutes.
6:00AM- expect light traffic, should take you ~15 minutes
6:30AM- expect moderate traffic (if there are no issues like there were today), should take you ~ 20-25 minutes

7:00am- expect at least 30 minutes
7:30am- around 30 minutes
8:00am- up to 45 minutes with traffic issues.

Hope that helps!

That's about right. My wife rode the bus downtown every day and she said that if you wanted a parking spot in the park and ride there you have to get there about 6AM.

If you can ride the bus without having to park your car, 7:30 would be the latest I would push it. Your commute will be less than half an hour.

Yeah, but there were some traffic issues this morning that really threw my numbers off! Man!

I prefer to wake up early and leave work "early" and I am hoping this makes me miss all of the traffic during the day. For instance, I am hoping to leave home at 6:30 and get to work at 7:00, leave work around 3:30 (no lunch in there, I prefer to eat and work). I think that will help me a ton!

Add time to the "with traffic" figure if it's raining. My commute today from the north end was 20 minutes longer than it usually is, just because people drive like idiots in the rain. Also because people choose to drive beat up cars that have no business being on the road...cars that die on the highway and create a needless distraction or traffic mess.
