Space Needle costs you a lot of money to visit, the market doesn't.

Pike Place Market is more than a "farmer's market". It is a central distribution area that offers natural food from all over the Western Hemisphere.

Vancouver vs. Seattle has been discussed on other threads. However, I think I can reasonably sum it up as this:

Vancouver is a dense, in-city residential area with many look-a-like condos and apartments. Seattle is a businesss and commercial center, with some in-city residential areas, but also offers a suburban area that does not exist in Vancouver on the same scale.

In other words, Vancouver is a Canadian city and Seattle is an American city.

I don't know how meaningful those numbers are - depends on what a "visitor" is counted as. Locals visit the market, some even shop there every week. Locals don't visit the Space Needle, except maybe if someone from out of town visits. Also worth noting that the market is free, while the Space Needle is $20.

I found this thread very interesting. Vancouver to me seems alittle cliche. It's new and it's hip, but doesn't offer the same amenities and opportunities as Seattle. And the comment on the "Toronto to Buffalo" comment Seattle is much larger the Vancouver's Metro area and Seattle's GDP is rival to Toronto, a city with an arguable larger presence on the world stage. With that said, Seattle is the future of north America if the City leaders can actually plan out a strong urban core that is not built with tourist attractions but actually cultural activities, festivals and a strong waterfront when the Alaskan Way is taken down. Vancouver is a nice place to visit for a few days and shop around but the cost of living is so much with not much more to offer then a ritzy urban core and a Natural setting. Seattle definitely isn't settling, and if you enjoy Vancouver then you should have a great time here.

Location. We can drive 3 hours for a day or overnight trip to either Vancouver BC or Portland.
People living in Vancouver can only get to Seattle in that time.

Seattle Has a vastly stronger economy and growing everyday. A larger array of dining options (cheaper options too), Prime location of the sound and nestled only an hour out from the cascades and lots of beaches since the city is boxed in by water. Friendly neighborhoods instead of just the "Urban neighborhoods" that are taking up Vancouver. Seattle and Vancouver both could learn from eachother as Vancouver is a much better planned city then Seattle, but I see a larger upside for Seattle in the future. Unless Vancouver develops a true economy, the glitz and glamour thing will run it's course. Both cities are great but I think seattle has much more to offer.
