Hello all,

I'm curious about Seattle. Im currently obtaining a business degree and will be 23 when i graduate in 2015. I was really considering moving to Seattle after school, there are a lot of things i like about it. However the only thing that has got me scared is the apparent lopsided male to female ratio. Ive looked on the US Census Bureau and it seems that there is only an uneven balance in those over the age of 30. 29 and under the male to female ratio seems to be even.

Also i'm looking for serious relationships and i really cant stand these fake tan air heads in NJ and supposedly SoCal. Also i find most hipster girls to be pretty cute. People say Seattle girls are ugly, to me it seems they're different but i like different. Unless they're outright physically ugly (which i doubt) Seattle doesn't seem to be bad for a young male looking for a female companion.

As a transplant how do you think id'd fair in the dating scene? Im confident but not cocky and i have a quirky sense of humor but it's definitely there. No im not a typical socially awkward shut in like i hear the typical single men in Seattle are? any help is greatly appreciated but please no senseless troll answers especially if you've never been to Seattle!

There have been other posts about "dating in Seattle" in the past 2-4 months. I recommend searching for them. They have a variety of opinions and perspectives. My personal view is that this is a decently sized city... there has to be at least ONE person here that would suit you...

You'll do fine. There's nobody more charming than those exotic guys from New Jersey ( Says the guy from NJ)

That reputation about the girls is largely due to the Northwest casual attire, people just don't dress up like in other major cities. Since I'm married and way older than you I wouldn't think of looking but even so I find that there are plenty of attractive young ladies around here. Instead of a $600 dress they might be wearing jeans with big holes in them with a tatoo showing on the thigh.

Yes of course I'm a transplant from NJ. Exit 8, Yo. I transplanted 35 years ago, and had much better "luck" out here.

I like New Jersey. Never understood the bad rap it gets from everybody.

Seattle is nice, in a rainy, cold, oriental, Starbucks-liberal democrat kind of way.

For years I have heard other people say that Seattle's only problem is that there are too many ex-Californians there. Based on what I know about Californians, I would tend to agree.

Good luck.

While there are a lot of us here, there are plenty of other people from other states and countries now compared to 1992 when we moved up. Last time I saw the data it was 60% of the Seattle Metro area from
other states/countries. The only "bad" things were the way we brought big equity money and drove up home prices, and the trend of California-like home developments with a sea of roofs. Older homes built in the late 70s-early 80s (like ours) were on larger lots with plenty of old trees left around them.
