I've read on several threads about the so called "Swimmer's Itch". Can anyone elaborate on what exactly it is? It makes me itch just typing about it.

You usually only have to worry about it in smaller lakes with lot's of geese.

Actually swimmer's itch is a lot less deterent to me than the fact that the local waters are COLD.

We have swimmers itch around here too. I've always been told that if you just rub hard with the towel when you dry off you can avoid it. Not sure if its really true though. :P

If you shower off with soap immediately after swimming, it's not too bad.

My kids and my husband all had swimmers itch when we went to Canada on vacation. they call it something else. Made my kids cry and my husband was almost there as well, took them to a clinic and they said an antihistamine and calamine. Few hours later it was better. Didnt affect me or my daughter however. It was bad for my other kids though.
