Hello! So I was accepted to University of Washington law school with a 10K/year scholarship. I was wondering what the job market is like for lawyers/anything in the legal field in the Seattle metro area? I'm coming from Southern California so I just want to know the realities of the job market in Seattle for anyone in law because ideally I would like to live in Seattle permanently.

Our lawyers have all been with us over 10 years, and if there were an opening, minimum 5 years experience is required. A friend's son recently passed the bar and is working at a law office for minimum wage. Many firms are using more paralegals to avoid hiring attorneys, and save money. I have seen a few openings in government agencies, but with 5 years experience required and starting only about $4,500/month. Hopefully things improve before you graduate.

I've heard the job market is TERRIBLE for recent law grads right now. See, a ton of kids who graduated in the late 2000s just went to law school when they couldn't get a job. Now they're out, and there's too many of them.

Why is it that all these kids are coming onto this board and asking random people about what it takes to get a job in a random field? If you're hoping to get into a field, you should know what the market is like... do some of your own research! If you're another Millennial that isn't willing to put in the hard work, you're in for a reality check.

The market is over saturated with people with JDs. There are many, many people employed in positions that do not require the use of their JD. This may be okay for some, but it certainly destroys one's dreams of being the next Jack McCoy.

Listen to this program and consider getting a MBA or better yet a MPH while at UW.
