Its a decent job but it pays about what I earn here in Atlanta, adjusted for cost of living. It is a year-long contract job so it may or may not develop into something more. Plus not as good benefits as what I get now. We have our heart set on living and working in the city of Seattle. I remember passing through Tacoma once, and it just didn't have the same feel as Seattle. If I'm going to move across the country I at least want to live as good or better than I am here. Trying to escape the traffic hell that is Atlanta and leaving 2 hours early to get to work on-time does not sound ideal at all.

You might consider living in Olympia (less than a 1/2 hr from DuPont) if what you like about Seattle is the hippy/funky vibe. Olympia is a little microcosm of Seattle without the obnoxious hilly driving.

OP you have the right idea - wait until the right opportunity opens up in Seattle and keep saving in Atlanta where I assume cost of living is lower. Don't move across the country for a short term contract in a city you don't want to live in.

I'm not sure why you are so committed to Seattle. There are lots of places in Seattle, especially the south end, that are pretty skanky. If you want to live in Seattle because you want to live in an interesting, safe, walkable neighborhood, you'll have to be in the center or north end, which will add another half hour or more to your commute if you work a regular M-F 9-5 schedule.
