That's what I learned in church today. This is probable due to the fact that there are so many single people here and they want somebody to love. Personally I don't think a pet dog is a substitute for a child. We seem to have our priorities wrong here.

You think single people should have kids?

I have heard this about dogs outnumbering children in Seattle before, and it may be true, but more likely due to the small number of good schools and the district being managed poorly with one scandal after another. When people have kids and the get to age 4 or 5 they move to the suburbs.

We're just trying to help you out. I mean, imagine how much more often you'd be shaking your cane if there were more kids in your neighborhood!

Just who are YOU to say who has their "priorities" wrong here? Why on EARTH in an overpopulated world would people who don't want to, have kids???? And what is wrong with having dogs? I have both, by the way. But again, who are YOU to say what priorities should be?

Actually, I think that's old news. What's new news is that certain Seattle neighborhoods are just exploding with kids. Walk around Market Street in Ballard and there are kids and young families everywhere, dogs too. In fact, a lot of Seattle schools have waiting lists , partly due to the increase in the school population.

There are probably a lot of childless couples, too. I didn't become a dad till I was 40.

While I have always preferred it that way, I sometimes miss having the kiddos around because of the fact that they don't take a dump on the sidewalks or park grass without being picked up.

I wouldn't be surprised if this statistic was true for many major metropolitan centers.
