I think they will, eventually. Though, due to air traffic, they can only be 1000 ft tall.

But, I think in the next 5 years or so, you'll see more 600-800+ buildings going up. Downtown is weird (for those who haven't been here yet), as it is really hilly and a lot of the buildings look shorter than they really are compared to the Columbia Center.

What is really insane to think about is...

Mt. Rainier is as tall as 15 Columbia Centers stacked up. Crazy!

Yeah I just hope that skyline fills in between Downtown and the space needle. It needs to be more dense imo. But hopefully the height restriction can be raise 200 or 300 feel within a few years

I could imagine that in the not to distant future a Seattle that is a lot like Manhattan--everything within the water boundaries being a multistory.

Yeah the kool part is its going to be a SLS hotel and night club.
The only other SLS hotels are South Beach Miami, Beverly Hills, Las Vegas, New York and now Seattle.

Yeah, Seattle has a gorgeous skyline, though. White buildings really make cities look clean (although, I like the Columbia Center). we definitely need to add at least another 2-3 800 foot tall buildings, that way I can salivate the whole time during my drive up bumper-to-bumper I-5 traffic.

I think SoDo Between Starbucks HQ and Century link should be rezoned for residential highrises. With a potential new arena this area is prime location to become a retail and residential district even with the port close by. 6-6 buildings between 350 and 450 feet plus 200 foot plus condos could add some needed density to the skyline. Maybe not flashy but it will be Gorgeous!

It'll be fun to go to the Space Needle in 2040 and be able to look in the windows of all the high-rises surrounding you as you eat.

"I think SoDo Between Starbucks HQ and Century link should be rezoned for residential highrises"

You can't force industry out of the area. We still need a place for the port - one of the key economic engines of our area - to do its work. You also can't put tall buildings in the flight path for King County Airport.
