With the construction of the alaskan way tunnel, the Seattle Downtown waterfront has many plans to re-invent the area. What would you like to see added to the waterfront in near future?

What we don't need is more tourist traps. It would be nice to have a 'green' area in the center of the city. We could have a tree-lined boulavard, with an extended park with viewing vestas on the waterfront side with hiking and biking trails. Restore the old docks and warehouses for resturants, bring the historic Farmer's Market down to easy access to the waterfront park. Try to keep it as non-commercial as possible. Parking will be a problem, so we will need underground parking on the east side. Of course the biggest problem with this is vagrants, bums and the homeless who already haunt this area.

I'll tell you what we DON'T need: swimming pools and amusement parks on the docks.

Problem is the width of the viaduct is too narrow to do anything with eccept a planting strip with trees and a trail. Elliot Ave. is already the boulavard. Now if we can do something about those railroad tracks.

I agree with you there, I would like to see more activities down there, a few plazas and attractions to get locals coming down there. Waterfront Seattle | Home They lay out a pretty nice layout of teh future waterfront

We need to restore the waterfront streetcar line or use that right-of-way to connect light rail from King Street Station to Ballard.

Probably not much can be done with the waterfront that hasn't already been done. Parking was under the vioduct, and when it goes, we will still need that parking space for what's already there. If we keep the railroad tracks, then at least we should be able to add trees. The problem is, space is limited. It would be nice to have a biking and hiking trail that follows the waterfront from the sculpture park to Pioneer Sq.

I think the goal of teh cit planners is to connect Pioneer square to the waterfront. I think more water-based activities should be there for family and tourist like maybe Speedboat rides like in San Francisco. There are planning to build an extension to the Aquarium and Square around it. More Unique shops and Restaurants along with more open green space would be nice.

There was a biking/hiking trail from Bell St to King...Without the viaduct, there's room for that and a streetcar. They co-existed before for years while the viaduct was still standing. No reason they couldn't do it with more space available.

Yes, the nicer it's made the more it will be a haven for the homeless, hence less a haven for the rest. Parking will almost certainly be more limited than it is today and then more $$$. While it's easy to imagine inexpensive things that would awesome for locals and tourists alike, politically it just wouldn't happen. $Billions won't be spent without firm plans to attract deep-pocketed visitors. All things considered we can expect a nicer looking waterfront with more of the same expensive tourist-focused stuff.
