I've been hunting around, but there is no easy source of information I can find. When I've spoken to out-of-state mortgage lenders, they have given me conflicting advice (!) regarding property transfer tax in King County. One said there was none, and the other said it was $22,000! They are both reputable, but it is driving me crazy that I can't figure out who is right (I did look on the King County website, but no joy). You guys tend to be the best "spring board" to look for further information - at least tell me where to look! So when you sell property in WA, King County in particular, is there a property transfer tax? Or any other kind of tax involved when you buy a property? Are any such taxes something you could claim back in a tax return?

Clueless ....

Yes, there is an excise tax. This is typically paid by the seller, though the specifics of this depend on the transaction as agreed between buyer and seller.

The property rates differ depending on location, as you can see on the PDF.

In general, in this area, the excise tax is 1.78%.
