Good morning all!

I would really like to know about the ins and outs of Tacoma. I'm 34 and looking for a great church, area to live in and places for entertainment. I would appreciate any help that you all can provide!

I don't live in Tacoma but did work down there for a bit, the downtown area seems to be the best place as far as entertainment goes but it's small. Living down there would probably be nicer, too. Tacoma has some questionable areas and by and large compared to Seattle it's just not as pretty, but I don't mind it down there. It's definitely affordable. I can't help you with a church, I don't swing that way.

As a professional you might be better off up near Seattle, but you'll get to explore that once you get here.

Christian Faith Center is very similar to Joel Osteen's church in Texas if you needed a popular comparison. There's plenty of churches in and around Tacoma. You might have to visit multiple ones until you find that right one, but Christian Faith Center is probably the most popular and is a great start. I wouldn't live in Tacoma though. I would live in areas around Tacoma..like Federal Way/DuPont/Gig Harbor/Puyallup-South Hill instead. I would skip one of Tacoma's largest suburbs Lakewood. It seems to have growing crime issues.

No shortage of black churches in Tacoma.. Now , the "professional" clause may be a problem. Tacoma is kind of a bit rougher and grittier of a town. Tacoma has earned the nickname, "Grit City" and you will see the name used time to time throughout the town. People with inflated egos and think of themselves as sophisticated professionals will be shunned. I'm not saying you are that way, but just a word of warning. Tacoma is like an old rust belt town of the Midwest, from what I have seen. If you are into the whole professional, modern sophisticated mentality, you would be a lot happier in Seattle.

I've discovered that Belltown, Capitol Hill, Queen Anne are teeming with 20-30 something White, Asian and Black "professionals". It is a professional paradise and everyone there dresses up, meets at fancy night clubs, expensive restaurants and bars and acts extremely professional, well-mannered, a bit gaudy, etc. It wasn't my scene, but it may cater to your liking more than gritty T-Town.

Being a software developer, I am neither classified as "professional" nor as "blue-collar", so I am just a fringe group that is a third-party observer..
