so i'm sold on Renton as the place I want to focus on for living, at first an apartment or townhouse, then eventually a house.

So All i've seen of Renton so far is the area that Ikea is located. so How is Renton for all those who are familiar with the area? cost of living/rent, jobs and ect.?

things to do, parks, shopping and restaurants? I know Seattle is just down the road basically but on those lazy days that I won't want to drive out to the city I want to make sure I have lots of stuff to do locally, and I don't mind the short drive to southcenter area for the mall in Tukwila.

No offense, horrible choice. Renton's crime rate is probably in the top 5 in the State. I would never live there for that simple fact. To add on to that, I-405 and SR 167 traffic in that area is horrific. Why didn't you look into other cities like Federal Way, Newcastle, Bellevue, Issaquah, Kirkland, Woodinville? Retail is the only good thing about Tukwila/Renton.

Also, you keep mentioning Southcenter like it's the greatest. Did you go to the Squares in Bellevue? (Bellevue Square/Lincoln Square)?

conflicting information here, so maybe its a preference and views on the area? but i've never been to Bellevue, if anything I heard the cost of living is just as high as seattle. I need affordability and may have to sacrifice some comfort. Yes I was impressed by Southcenter but i didn't say it was the greatest, but is a nice feature to have access to.

Nope, Renton is not in the top 5 in the state for crime, not in the top ten. Tukwila has the highest crime rate in the state , with 163 per 1,000 population. Burlington is 124, Union Gap 114, Shelton 85, Spokane 79, Everett 77, Moses Lake 74, Puyallup 74, Wapato 72, Gig Harbor 71, Tacoma 69, Seattle 60. Renton is 49.
So..."no offense, horrible choice?"
I live in Renton. I like it here. I have lived here for 15 years, I've never been a victim of crime, and I'm offended.
Not everyone wants to or can afford to shop at Bellevue Square or Lincoln Square. Some people prefer, or can only afford to shop at Target.

Thank you and well said, seems a biased view on the area. I've heard more positive things about Renton than negative so far.

Tukwila has the highest crime. OK. What about next door Kent? The thread is for comments, so I gave it. It's my opinion. I still think Renton is a horrible choice. If you are offended my people's opinion, maybe you shouldn't be in this forum. I wouldn't want to live sandwiched between two crime infested cities (Kent & Tukwila), but then again, it's my opinion.

Having traveled to a lot of cities around the US, and having lived in Cleveland, OH for many year, I always get a good chuckle when someone calls any part of this region "crime infested" or "dangerous".

I am calling them crime infested in perspective to the area. I've been to Chicago, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Los Angeles, Birmingham, Memphis, Philadelphia obviously those cities are on a different scale. Again, it's perspective to the nearby area I'm talking about.

Kent has 46 crimes per 1000 population, slightly better than Renton's, and lower than Seattle's. Renton is also near low crime Issaquah and Maple Valley, so maybe people should live in Renton because it's." sandwiched" between two very safe areas. Look: You're the one who said " No offense", which to most people means" I don't intend to hurt anybody's feelings here.", but when I say I'm offended, now I shouldn't be posting in the forum.
You're entitled to your opinion. And making sure to not let facts get in the way.i

I think Renton is a good choice for someone looking for moderately priced housing and (relatively) easy access to the Eastside suburbs and points further south, as well. We live in Redmond , but we do head down there now and then. Here's some things we enjoy. I'm sure there are many more, not to mention being within easy driving distance to the airport:

Renton Highlands Neighborhood - //www.city-data.com/city/East-R...ashington.html

Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park - City of Renton Boat Launch Information

The Whistle Stop Ale House - Whistle Stop Ale House

Fry's Electronics - Fry's Home Electronics | Computer Parts & Accessories, Software, Games, TVs, Cameras - Frys.com

Dollar Tree - Dollar Tree, Inc.: Floral Supplies, Party Supplies, Cleaning Supplies

Best of luck and welcome to Washington!
