What's that supposed to mean? The only Socialist in D.C. is Bernie Sanders. As far as I can tell, he does a lot better job speaking for the American people than most of his peers.

I love how conservatives misuse the term "socialist" for any liberal policy they disagree with. It's especially ironic when aimed at the ACA, which is based on the conservative Heritage Foundation's policy paper of the early 1990s, the point of forcing everyone to buy insurance being to relieve the government (i.e., the taxpayers) from footing the emergency room bills of the uninsured, which the Federal Government is obligated to pay. On the other hand, the VA hospitals are actually truly socialist - owned and run by the government - and I don't hear too many conservatives complain about those. My father got one of the first heart bypasses at the one in Washington, D.C. For free.

Most federal employees believe they are worth $50 hr. That's over $100K yearly.

What would you pay someone $50 hr to do?

I was being sarcastic...
The only doctors or high end escorts deserve $50 an hour.

[quote=armory;32258813][quote=victorianpunk;32258668] Anyway, the whole $15 minimum wage is absurd and will never pass. It barely passed in Seatac and Seattle will never let that happen. It will be the death of the city with Bellevue the biggest winner as businesses will move their. A living wage in Seattle is $9.67 an hour for a single man and hence it makes sense to have a $10 an hour minimum wage, but $15? Why not a $50 an hour minimum wage why we're at it?

Does it have to be legal?

Seattle elects socialist candidate to city council - Houston Chronicle
That's kinda funny given Houston is the home of Sheila Jackson Lee, who is one step from a socialist herself.

Anyone know what college she teaches economics at?
Despite all the political theory she is educated in, being a city councilperson is pretty practical. She needs to get the potholes repaired and make sure other city services are functioning properly. She won't last long if she just uses her position as a soapbox.

She taught at Seattle Central Community College, and was fired. But now she'll get a big raise. And Richard Conlin will get a nice pension.

She is clearly a true believer. She has said that she will only accept average wages, and donate the rest to the Marxist cause. In some ways I'm happier with that than with a Nickles or McGinn.

OTOH I think she's got a fair chance of getting the $15 minimum wage imposed, and that will be a disaster for Seattle. No more entry level, low-skill jobs for young people trying to get their feet wet. It will also quash start up businesses. Restauranteur Tom Douglas said that if the $15/hr minimum wage had been in place when he was starting his business, he would have been out of business.

People keep forget about that no matter how they raise business taxes and minimum wages, the corporation will always find their ways to cut employees/hours. Same can be said for the real estate's prices and our rent. When Americans finally realize that it's US not UK, that's when you'll see we're getting our **** together about the economic. THINK OUTSIDE OF TAXES.

I had to laugh at this. I was reading the King 5 news online, and on the same page as a story about Seattle being designated America's smartest city you also had a story about a socialist being elected to the city council. I guess we know how much stock to put into the smartest city list. Or perhaps smart is now synonymous with being a pinhead. Seriously, she won the old fashioned way, she bribed voters. I'd be shocked if anyone educated actually voted for her.

She taught economics. No doubt her students received valuable lessons that will help them in America; economics from a socialist Maybe her class was full of exchange students from Venezuela. No wonder she was fired.
