Last year we went to the festivale and I loved seeing all the salmon returning to the hatchery. I could of watched it all day long however there were a million people there. Anyone know where I can go sit and hang out and watch the salmon? What kind of date span do I have to go do this?

Thanks!

Depends on where you are coming from, and how long you're willing to travel, but the Westport Boat Basin is a great place to come salmon watching!

The local High School works with the Humptulips Hatchery and releases hatchlings every year, so there is a group (I don't know what you would call them) but some salmon who come back to the Boat Basin thinking that is where "home" is. The Chamber of Commerce sponsors a fishing derby, but you can also just stand out on the Fisherman's Boardwalk and watch the schools of salmon passing by. It's pretty cool. I like to eat at the Half Moon Bay Bar and Grill and watch the fishermen out on the docks.

My sister is bringing her kids down this weekend and we're going to take the kids fishing because its supposed to be good "catching" from now until the end of October.

I'm thinking you're referring to "Salmon Days" in Issaquah?

Or are you talking about watching the Sockeye at the Chittenden Locks in Ballard?

My hunch is that you're talking about Salmon Days in Issaquah every October.

Issaquah Salmon Days Festival: Home

If you're talking about the Locks, you can see salmon usually from June to October but July is considered the peak.

Since you posted this in the Seattle forum, I really don't know whether you're referring to the Locks or not.

Since we are getting comments from other places, I'm going to move the thread to the WA forum.

This year (2014) we are expecting record return of salmon into the Westport marina. Come between 9/20 and 10/10 for best viewing (catching) Salmon Festival is Sept 27,28 and the Generational Salmon Derby in the marina is the first week end in Oct.

Issaquah Salmon Days is October 4th-5th. We also like to go during the week in the daytime and sometimes have been able to watch the hatchery workers harvest eggs from the fish in the holding tanks and fertilize them.
