We are moving back to the Puget Sound after being away for a few years. About a year ago while on assignment in Shanghai, China our daughter (now 5) was diagnosed with Autism. We currently have her in an Expat Private Special Needs school which is good for the area but lacking compared to resources in the States due to a limitations on finding qualified specialists (typically expats rotate in and out). For this reason we are looking at moving back next summer.

We are currently looking at houses in north Sammamish (specifically around Sahalee) and are wondering in anyone has experience with special needs (autism) support with schools in the Lake Washington School District. It looks like the assigned elementary school would be Elizabeth Blackwell even though Mead is closer to the homes that have made our short list. I wonder if Lake Washington School District allows going to a nearby school that is not 'assigned' based on needs?

As a backup we are also looking in Bellevue. I hear that Enatai, Clyde Hill and Somerset are good elementary schools in the Bellevue School District for Autism, but certainly the houses appear pricier.

Any experience or thoughts about the school districts and specific schools would be appreciated.

We are moving to seattle area in 2 months, and trying to look for a good school for our 7 year old son with autism. I am wondering what school did your daughter finally go to and how do you like her school? Do you know any other good schools in Sammamish or Bellevue for autism kids? Thanks!

I have heard from one of the autism specialists in the area (works at a major hospital as well as consults with local school districts) that the Bellevue district in general has excellent support for children with autism. I actually have an almost-teenage son with autism, but he's very high functioning and doesn't require OT, Speech, or any related services. He has a 504 plan. As I understand it from others who specialize in working with autistic teens, Newport high school in the Bellevue district has an outstanding program for higher functioning children with autism. I haven't had experience at the elementary level with regards to services.

Mead was about the best around but this fall they are moving most of the program (due to overcrowding) to another elementary school. I don't know which but you should talk to the head of Special Education at the districts you are considering (Paul Vine at Lake Washington). They are not likely to comment and which schools or teachers are better than others, but can tell you how many staff and students there are at each, and which have a resource center.

I ask for help, I want to find school has program for autistic children and accept non US residents.

My name is Sameh Elnaggar, I am Egyptian Dentist, I want to ask about possibility to enroll my child in your school because next year may be I will join to Washington University for dental residency program in next June 2016.

I have daughter 4.5 years and son 8 years at this moment.

My son has some features of Autism but he is quite normal and smart especially in mobile games but he has some difficulties in skills, speech and academic learning and we don't have in middle east countries good autism programs and schools like USA which has powerful programs and schools for autism.

From his birth until nearly 3 years he was OK and normal after 3 years we noticed some changes.

After consultation with some doctors, the diagnosis is mild to moderate autism and ADD.

We did some tests for my child like CARS,Gilliam and Vineland.. some scores reached 35 and 33..We do also hearing test,EEG and CT scan and he is Ok.

He went for some programs for improvement his awareness and abilities. He takes medicine daily like Omega 3 about 5 ml once daily and Risperidone about 0.5 ml daily.

He is still repeating some words and phrases, difficult to express about himself in right way but he knows already difference between right things and wrong things.
We didn't try Oxygen therapy or diet nutrition.

Unfortunately, we don't have good schools and trusted centers to deal with Autism or Asperger syndrome,So I have to transfer to help my child.

My daughter is good , smart and normal girl.
