We left Seattle about 10 yrs ago. And now, after the first of the year we will be moving back ! We can't wait. Seattle has a great quality of life. It has all kinds of things to do. I also find that Seattle has some of the most polite people in the USA. Since leaving Seattle 10 yrs ago, we lived in AZ,GA and TX. The city we live in currently has some of the rudest peole I have ever come across. Like I said, we can't wait to get back to Seattle.

My brothers wife just got back from Seattle from a business trip. She commented on how laid back the people there were.

Be sure to find a quiet area with few young adults, unless you like bass thuds shaking your walls from your neighbor's music playing all night long.

No. I very much want to be around families. I have an area in mind I will check out.

Drinkable tap water is such a benefit! We had good air quality in FL, but the tap water there was gross. It was undrinkable without some kind of filtration system--I'm sure it was safe, but it tasted and smelled horrible. Seattle has excellent tasting tap water and it's actually cold! Really a great benefit that usually isn't on a list of "wants" when looking for a community, but so important for livability and quality of life. We were very happy to discover that Poulsbo's water (public utility) tastes nearly as good as Seattle's--not quite, but close enough!

Very true! Water here is really bad. I have a well and pretty much hate well water! The best tap water Ive had to date is NY! Took it for granted when I lived there , but after living in a few different states you get to see not everywhere has good drinking/tasting tap water.

Me too! Although tap water from the public utility here in town tastes great, our friends living in a few miles away in rural Poulsbo have a well and yuck--their water tastes (and smells) terrible! They've had it tested and it's safe, but is pretty much undrinkable. They have a water filter and also use bottled water for drinking. I love being able to just turn on the tap and have good-tasting, cold water to drink. Such a luxury!

To get back on topic--even though it can be more expensive to live here than many places in the US, that's really a matter of personal choice and standard of living. Our quality of life here is higher in nearly all ways, but no more expensive--actually less expensive than FL, but that's because we changed our lifestyle. My husband and I traded in our very large, new pool house in a golf community in central FL for a much smaller, more economical 1954 home in an older neighborhood of intown Poulsbo. They were almost the same price. Some would think we lowered our standards of living a great deal, but the truth is just the opposite. We changed our lifestyle completely from a car-centric one to a walking one. We're healthier and happier. We walk along the nearby Liberty Bay waterfront every day and into the quaint historic downtown several times a week. We've checked out all the local restaurants, coffee houses and bakeries. We shop at Central Market. We've done the walk-on Bainbridge-Seattle ferry a few times just to browse around Pike Place Market. Some weeks we have to remember to start our car just to keep the battery charged!

Granted, not everyone has the same options we do right now (working at home, grown chlldren), but we were also formerly plugged into the fast-paced, car-centric, too-much-to-do, too-little-time corporate world before making a conscious choice to change and simplify our lifestyle. We had a five-year plan for achieving this goal and it took us that long to plan, prepare, search for a new community (so many great areas to choose from, it took lots of trips!), find a house and get moved. It was difficult, frustrating, expensive and scary. After moving, we gave ourselves four months to get settled in and start working again. We're back at work again, but in a completely stress-free environment--our home. So far, so good.

Now you know why weather isn't high on my list of my concerns...

Lynn

Seriously? When we lived in Seattle's city limits we NEVER drank the tap.... so gross! We always bought bottled, both in the city and the suburbs.... I didn't know anyone who drank the tap water there.

LOL! I guess it's all relative. Compared to Orlando's water, it's like champagne.
