or have the rents in Seattle and neighboring areas gone up sharply this side of 2014 ? I was hoping to rent a decent 3 bed for under 2500 in Issaquah/Bellevue/Seattle but am coming up with absolutely nothing right now.. in December, it seemed to be possible !

Yes, our friends rent in a neighborhood in Bellevue for $2500 a month, gorgeous house. A house in the same neighborhood just went up for rent at $3500, a thousand dollars more per month for less of a house. What is hoping on out here?

Most of the lower priced rentals don't advertise on the internet.

You may have better luck driving around in the neighborhoods where you want to rent and looking for "for rent" signs.

There is no rent control here, with many people still moving to the area for good jobs, and a shortage of houses for rent, landlords are charging whatever they can get. For 3+ bedrooms the increase has been more, because there are few of them available. There will also be increases in anticipation of hefty property tax increases if all the school bond issues pass in the upcoming election.

We pay a lot of money to rent a not so special house. They raised our rent last year by $100 (they wanted $150 but we talked them down). I have no doubt they'll raise the rent by a similar amount (or higher) this year.

Houses around here seem to start around $3000.
