No way the mountain is out on a "dreary November day"

It is not a well know tourist attraction but the sky view observatory at the columbia center is enclosed so if it rains you will not get wet, it is a few hundred feet higher than the space needle (and about 10$ less to visit as well), offers an excellent view as well and you get to see the space needle from there as a bonus.

I got lucky, i went friday night upon getting to Seattle and got a beautiful nighttime skyline of the city. Wasn't raining and actually saw a few stars peeking through. Was windy and cold though so still spend most of the time from the inside the observation tower.

I went up on a cloudy day, no rain. Such a disappointment. So now I tell everyone if it's not clear, I'm not sure I would go and spend the $$$. Hoping our next visit is clearer. My daughter wants to go there for brunch with 2 of her friends for her bday......so we will be attempting again in May.

Yeah, but do those idiots let you take photos from up there???

They didn't 20 years ago!

Clarity - it is an empty office floor, and you pay to stand near what would be the windows in a very high office building which offers impressive views of the surrounding city and mountains.

Also on that floor, back in the day, was the small office of the area traffic reporting business.

I agree that the view is totally impressive, and that you're always 'dry' up there.

lol- yeah I was there last fall and I took plenty of good pictures- Conde Nast listed it as their 9th best observation deck (I did not realize there was a 40th floor Starbucks there-gonna have to visit that sometime)

Do watch the weather. The good thing is you can go up whenever you want. If it is foggy or raining, just put it off. Do it later. On a nice day it IS worth the money. The restaurant at the top has been criticized for being less than great, but you are not really paying for the food. However, the food has improved over recent years. Call ahead to reserve a window table, but you are more likely to get that with a party of 4 or more. Simply because the tables are mostly set up that way. You could lie, but you would be frowned upon and Dr. Frasier Crane would not permit that!
