I don't work in the field but I use them and refer them constantly! There aren't enough highly skilled craftspeople to go around and the good ones are always booked months out! Our friends in the carpentry business have more work than they know what to do with : )

They are also highly skilled which is the key..think perfectionist and clients with highly refined taste particularly in Seattle!

Good luck!!

Check out the program at seattle central CC - it is awesome.

There's also a guy who teaches a beginners carpentry course at UW. You register for it through north seattle CC adult ed.

There's a great carpenter who has a storefront on Lake City Way near 125th. Maybe you can go have a conversation with him.

Buen suerte!

Construction is growing again, in fact there is a development of 100 homes starting soon in a neighborhood about at the Sammamish/Issaquah border. There are many highrise construction cranes in both Seattle and the Eastside. No one knows how long this will last, and there may be enough people already available for the carpenter jobs but it's definitely better than 2008-9 when they were being laid off as developers stopped building. People are also doing home renovations again all over the area that they deferred during the uncertain times.

I think so!! We've been desperately trying to find someone to do a simple job - replace two handrails on our deck before the painters come- and NO ONE is available! It's crazy. They're booked out for months. I told my dad he needs to come out here - he's been doing it for almost 40 years.

I think there is a Carpentry Apprenticeship programs - they usually give the qualification needed for a licensed carpenter.
