Hello,

We moved to Seattle area a couple of years ago but have been stuck mostly indoors due to the pandemic. We are eager to explore the outdoors in 2022 summer. I understand that the summers get really busy and almost impossible to find camping spots unless reserved in advance. How are temperatures in early/late June for camping? We are planning to do car camping and are looking for locations that are within 3 to 3.5 hours away from Seattle.

What are some of the good places to camp in early/mid June? We are not too keen to camp in freezing temperatures. Are there any locations that are warm enough to camp in June?

Thanks.

Sure, just stay away from higher elevations. Early June might to great and avoid the rush of people traveling here from other parts of the world. I think you would love an Olympic Peninsula loop.

I'd vote for Lake Quinnault (ancient trees, waterfalls, elk, gorgeous lake), here is a campground example: https://www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/119290

Then Kalaloch area right on the Pacific Ocean: https://www.nps.gov/olym/planyourvis...ruby-beach.htm

early June = Good season for Fly Fishing (Spring Hatch)

Many lakes and rivers beckon!
consider something earlier in the yr and head eastside!, before it gets too hot. (509 will welcome you!)

Potholes Fishing Reports - NWFR

other areas... 3-3.5hrs=(On the fringe but worth the trip)
  • St Helens
  • Long Beach peninsula
  • Moses Lake region
  • Goldendale Observatory + Columbia River Gorge camping / hiking
  • Lopez Island (Bike camping)
  • Twisp
~4hrs
  1. Grand Coolee
  2. Palouse Falls
  3. Okanogan
  4. Walla Walla (Really nice town for a sun break (Winter included), look for college events or community festivals to attend (Or sustainable living center)
  5. North Oregon Coast (25% surcharge for Out-of-state campers in Oregon State Parks starting Jan 1 2022 (reserve today!!! beat the price increase).) or find a federal camping spot. Oregon used to have an additional '
reciprocal charge' for WA campers, it was not pretty in the 1980's (Feud Between the 2 states)

I have had great luck getting spots at Army Corp campgrounds (Dams). They are really nice and often near nice recreation.

Nice camping.... = BC (Canada)

We really enjoy a late spring trip to Rainier N Park / Paradise Lodge. Chilly for camping, but nice dinky motels / cabins nearby for under $100, sometimes under $50. Do a weekend near Mother's Day at Paradise Lodge if you can!
This is a nice spot to visit (Free) / nearby

Packwood Flea Market is a wild weekend! (2x / yr previously) https://visitrainier.com/events/pack...save-the-date/

Camping where people are NOT, is not tough to find in WA.

You could take a camping trip to Steamboat Rock State Park in early June and pay a visit to the Grand Coulee dam. The area has a different look than west of the mountains.

Lake Quinault is heaven. It really is, especially the north shore. You will never forget it.

June can have some warm dry days but you're equally likely to get cold rain. You could get a cabin or yurt at a state park if you don't want to tent camp in the rain.
