If Seattle wa has a suicide problem then most of these people hide it well.. I never notice it now if you want to live in a city with depressed people try L A .. You have so many people that are begging for a car to run them over.. Maybe they were talking about teenagers but that is everywhere teenagers can be drama queens and think everything is the end of the world. I know was like that when I was young..

It seems to not matter what the facts state. Facts can't know more than my ignorant opinion
Seattle, in the last suicide rate study by major city I saw ( which I think was from 2007), ranked tied for 27th and 28th with Cleveland.
A couple of things worth noting: 1.The cities at the top of the list ( the most suicides) are sunny, and 2. The cities at the bottom of the list are more noted for murders than suicides.
Complete list by City:

1 Las Vegas, NV
2 Colorado Springs, CO
3 Tucson, AZ
4 Sacramento, CA
5 Albuquerque, NM
6 Mesa, AZ
7 Miami, FL
8 Denver, CO

13 Fresno, CA
14 Phoenix, AZ
15 Tulsa, OK
16 Milwaukee, WI
17 Oklahoma City, OK
18 Atlanta, GA
19 Austin, TX
20 Cincinnati, OH
21 Charlotte, NC
22 St. Louis, MO
23 Indianapolis, IN
24 Louisville/Jefferson Co., KY
24 Virginia Beach,VA
26 Nashville-Davidson,TN
27 Cleveland, OH
27 Seattle, WA

Thank you IRA....I came from city #1 before moving here (much more depressing). There are other cities with just as many cloudy days on the east coast, Great Lakes region and in Oregon and you don't seem to hear this rumor about them. There are cities that get more daily rain (in any measurable amount) and total annual inches of rainfall.....and they don't get slammed with this rumor. But once a rumor starts, it never seems to go away. I feel that economic factors, the general health of the populous, proximity to outdoor activities and nature and the education/intellegence of the people are far more telling in affecting depression or suicide, than the weather. If weather were the sole factor everyone in England would be dead. I really think ones health and home life, economic stance, opportunities for education, personal enrichment, advances in life, play far more importance. NOT negating that SAD isn't a reality and that it doesn't play a factor for many here. Just don't agree with the lable of "suicide city" for Seattle.

Why is it some CD city threads on here you are allowed to go on and bash the people, the city and curse them, but on other city threads they lock it the minute a negative word is said? People sure do a lot of Seattle bashing.....

Ira, can you post a link to the list? I quoted the same stats months ago but can't recall finding the list. I'd like to post it in the Austin forum (my beloved old hometown) for all those Seattle bashers. Austin's actually higher than Seattle! Must be the heat

Scroll down to table 1.17 for suicide stats. Where I got my stats from was a city-data thread from a couple of years ago, with a link that didn't work. The link here is older but has similar numbers.

As well as much of Europe, all of Alaska, a good swath of Asia, all of Vancouver, Auckland New Zealand, and the list could go on and on and on...
