I've just immigrated to the US recently with my wife, Currently I am living with my friend in Aliso Viejo, Orange County. I am UI/UX Designer, I know that San Francisco is a good place for tech jobs and startups, but its too expensive. So I need to start with the cheaper cities, I am wondering is it a good move to relocate to Seattle ?
Or should I find a location near San Francisco ? I am absolutely new to everything here, so I am not familiar with neighborhoods here.

Seattle is definitely cheaper than SF. However you might have better chances of quickly finding a job in SF than Seattle. I say this because my husband frequently has recruiters contact him and invariably the job is in CA. But honestly if I were you I would be applying to companies in both cities.

I agree with flyingsaucermom <waving> to check into both but start with bay area since its closer and wouldn't be a major uprooting should you choose it over Seattle.

However, cost of living is cheaper up here and Washington has no income tax which matters with high income earners. Plus we have a strong tech focused immigrant community around Microsoft. On the whole, Washington is a much healthier economy than California, but understand the appeal as there are parts of it I love.
